James Gilbert returns to Summit Systems as Engineering Manager

Summit Systems has welcomed back James Gilbert in his new role as Engineering Manager, marking the next chapter in a career that has been closely linked with the business for more than two decades.

James first joined Summit in 2004 and has since worked across a range of positions within the company. Most recently, he spent the past ten years as a Service Engineer, supporting customers on site across plastics processing and process cooling applications. His return to the business in a senior leadership capacity brings extensive hands-on experience directly into the heart of the Service and Technical Department.

Driving engineering development

Asked what excites him most about stepping into the role, James points to the evolution of the business and the opportunity ahead.

“The company has developed significantly in recent years. I am looking forward to helping strengthen skills, efficiency and collaboration across all aspects of the engineering department.”

His leadership style reflects his time in the field. Adaptable and flexible to situational needs, James maintains a calm approach during urgent breakdowns while encouraging teamwork and innovation throughout the department.

Clear priorities for customers

James has outlined clear priorities for his new role. A key focus is improving the flow of information and communication within the department, ensuring engineers attending site have full documentation, drawings and project scope before work begins.

He is also focused on enhancing response times to technical queries and improving the availability of product information, giving customers greater confidence and clarity when support is required.

For manufacturers, this means continued investment in structured processes, faster communication and a service team aligned around delivering practical, informed solutions on site.

Advice for improving reliability

Drawing on years of field experience, James is clear on one of the most effective ways to reduce downtime. “Invest in preventative maintenance and associated spare parts. I have seen first-hand how regular maintenance and immediate access to replacement components can significantly improve reliability and overall production performance.”

Expanding the engineering team

As part of its continued growth, Summit Systems is currently recruiting to expand its Engineering department, further strengthening support across the plastics and process cooling industries.
