Custom Fabricated Frame Improves Quality Control at AutoGlass
The Requirement
AutoGlass required a purpose-built custom fabricated frame to support quality control checks on windscreens before dispatch to its customers. The existing process needed improvement to make inspections easier for the team and to ensure the frame used during checks was practical, consistent and well suited to the task.
Summit Fabrications’ Approach
The Summit Fabrications team worked closely with AutoGlass from the outset to develop a custom fabricated frame tailored to the application. A design engineer and members of the fabrication team visited the site to review the requirement in detail and assess the specification against a previous inspection frame that had been used.
During the visit, the team discussed how the inspection process worked in practice and gathered feedback directly from the operators who would be using the frame. This helped Summit Fabrications identify where improvements could be made and which additional features would make the frame more practical for day-to-day use. Using this information, Summit Fabrications developed a design tailored to the application, ensuring the custom fabricated frame would support efficient inspections while also improving usability and operator comfort.
The Outcome
The final custom fabricated frame delivered exactly what the AutoGlass team needed. It has made the inspection process significantly easier and provides a more ergonomically suitable working setup for the operators carrying out quality control checks. The team at AutoGlass were very happy with the final result and with the way the frame supports their workflow.
