Energy & Material Savings Through Automated Ancillary Upgrades
Glazpart is a growing UK manufacturer based in Banbury, employing over 100 people and operating 40 injection moulding machines across its production facility. Specialising in high-volume injection moulded plastic components, Glazpart is best known for supplying the construction and building products sector, producing a wide range of ventilation solutions, glazing accessories and technical moulded parts used throughout the UK market. With a strong sea of green Engel Injection Moulding Machines on site, the business continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen process consistency. Following the recent appointment of a new Managing Director, Glazpart has remained focused on long-term growth and continuous improvement across their operations.
Glazpart’s Banbury site is supported by a range of Summit Systems ancillary equipment, with Summit working closely alongside their team to deliver solutions that enhance production performance and reduce operating costs. With a focus on automation, reliability, and energy efficiency, Summit has helped Glazpart modernise key areas of their moulding cell support infrastructure, from material handling through to downstream part conveying and packing.
The Challenge
As production demands increased, Glazpart required a more efficient and accurate approach to material dosing and feed, while also reducing labour requirements and improving overall plant energy performance. Their previous dosing approach relied on volumetric systems, which limited consistency and contributed to unnecessary masterbatch consumption. In addition, their older material feed systems were no longer providing the best value or efficiency, and manual involvement in part conveying and bagging was restricting output potential. Glazpart needed a complete solution that could reduce waste, improve automation, and deliver measurable savings, without causing major disruption to production.
The Solution

Summit Systems delivered a complete ancillary upgrade across multiple areas of the Banbury facility. For dosing and blending, Glazpart moved from volumetric units to new Movacolor gravimetric dosing technology, allowing significantly improved accuracy and faster set-up. The upgrade quickly proved its value, with Glazpart seeing noticeably improved consistency and product quality. Following the success of the installation, the site has now expanded to more than 30 Movacolor units in operation, one for each of their injection moulding machines.
To support material supply across the moulding floor, Summit installed a Plastic Systems material feed solution, replacing Glazpart’s previous system. This provided a more energy efficient and cost-effective approach, while improving reliability and supporting future expansion. As part of the installation, Summit Fabrications designed and manufactured a custom three-way valve on the silo line, enabling improved automated material feed control across nine machines, tailored specifically to Glazpart’s site layout and production requirements.
To further reduce manual handling and increase throughput, MB Conveyors downstream automation was installed to provide synchronised part conveying and accurate counting. The system included a double bag carousel, reducing operator involvement and improving packing efficiency, delivering higher output with lower labour demand.
The project was delivered on an extremely fast turnaround. The order was placed at the end of November 2025, with the installation completed by Christmas Eve 2025, ensuring Glazpart entered the new year with upgraded infrastructure already fully operational.
Results & Feedback
Since moving to Movacolor gravimetric dosing units, Glazpart has reported significant material savings, reducing masterbatch usage from 1.5% down to an average of 0.25 % to 0.5% in certain applications . With gravimetric control delivering improved dosing precision and quicker set-up compared to volumetric equipment, the site has also achieved stronger process consistency and better-quality performance overall.
Alongside material savings, the new installation has also delivered major energy efficiency improvements. Glazpart has reported power consumption reductions of approximately 15% to 20% since implementing the new Summit system at the end of 2025, supporting both sustainability goals and reduced running costs.
The customer highlighted the value of Summit’s project delivery and support throughout installation, praising the service team for their responsiveness and attention to detail. “The Summit service team were very efficient. Evident that the Summit team took health and safety seriously. They were quick to resolve any problems and delays during installation, and their attention to detail was excellent. They adapted and overcame all issues”, comments Russell Beale, Maintenance Manager for Glazpart.
The improvements to consistency and quality performance were also noted following the transition to gravimetric dosing. “With the Movacolor gravimetric units, we’re achieving better quality and far more consistent performance since moving away from the volumetric units, with noticeable masterbatch savings,” says Andy Rose, Mouldshop Manager.
